This checklist has been adapted from Dr. L.E.Shapiro’s book on Parenting.This checklist is designed to help parents see how much they are already doing to raise an emotionally intelligent child & what new things might be done (& not to measure EQ score of parents)

1) Do you hide serious problems from your child?

2) Do you discuss your own faults openly?

3) Does your child watch more than 12 hrs of Television per week?

4) Do you have a home computer?How much time child spends with computer?

5) Do you consider yourself an optimistic person?

6) Do you help child cultivate friends?

7) Do you monitor the violent content of your child’s TV watching & video games?

8) Do you spend sometime of the day with your child in unstructured play or activities? How much?

9) Do you have clear & consistent ways to discipline your child & enforce rules?

10) Do you participate in community service activities with your child on a regular basis?

11) Are you truthful & honest with your child, even about painful subjects such as illness or loss of a job?

12) Do you teach your child how to physically relax as a way to cope with stress, pain & anxiety?

13) Do you step in when your child is having difficulty solving a problem?

14) Do you have regular family meetings?

15) Do you insist that your child always show good manners toward others?

16) Do you take time to teach your children to see the humor in everydaylife, even in their problems?

17) Are you flexible with your child’s study habits and need for organizational skills?

18) Do you make your child keep trying even when he complains that something is too hard or even when he fails?

19) Do you confront your child if you know that they are not being truthful, even if it is a small matter?

20) Do you respect your child’s privacy, even if you suspect she/he is doing something harmful to herself/himself?

21) Do you let your child’s teacher handle the motivational problems in school without becoming involved?

22) Do you think you should be more tolerant of problems in your child because you have the same (or similar) problems?

23) Do you leave your child alone if they donot want to talk about something that is making him/her angry/upset?

24) Do you believe that every problem has a solution?

25) Do you insist that your child maintain a healthy diet & daily exercise?

The parents may give answers to these questions in Yes/No Pattern,& send them by post / fax. To the official address of EquipKids (See contact us for details).
